Mission Statement:
“To support and advocate for all students on campus by fostering a funded, safe, integrated, and active campus.”
With this mission statement, we are focusing on four themes which include:
•
Engagement: An engaged campus through outreach and events
•
Safety: A safe place to learn
•
Inclusion: Inclusion of students and student groups through communication
•
Proper funding: Utilizing traditional and innovative means
Our Organization:
ASPSU is the Associated Students of Portland State University – your student government working hard for students in the legislature, on campus, and around the state. We are a group of passionate student leaders who come from various walks of life devoted to one common purpose: to tirelessly serve the over 27,000 students at Portland State University. We are passionately dedicated to advocating on behalf of students to ensure continued access to higher education that is excellent, affordable, equitable, and that values the will of its students, and are devoted to this cause out of deeply held personal convictions.
We believe that all students, without exception, should have their needs represented to and recognized by the school administration, state officials, and other key decision makers within our community. As student leaders, we are committed to fostering leadership abilities in every student we encounter by providing each with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively champion causes on their own behalf and on the behalf of others.
In addition to activism and leadership development, we provide a formal means of communication between students, student organizations, faculty, and the University administration, organize student representation on University committees, provide programs and services not otherwise offered, and act as a general resource center for student needs. The Student Fee Committee, a branch of ASPSU, is also responsible for providing a process for students to participate fully in the allocation of student fees.
Ultimately, ASPSU exists to make Portland State University a better and more accessible institution of higher education while helping to develop the engaged citizens of tomorrow through cooperation, education and activism.
