If you have something to say, take a minute to drop by the forums to ask questions, give feedback, or let us know what we need to address for you!

Feel free to stop by our office anytime! We're in Room #117 of Smith Memorial Student Union. It's just down the hallway between the Smith Information Desk and the HigherOne ATM!

Are you registered to VOTE?

ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?

Voting gives students power in the legislature. In the 2006 election, the Student Vote Coalition registered 33,617 students to vote. The next year, Oregon students won a historical victory for need-based aid. It’s no coincidence that 2004 was called the “year of the student voter” and in 2005 college students were considered the winners in the Oregon legislature.

Students can only be successful if we work now to build our power at the polls. The elections this fall, we’ll be electing candidates who will have decision power over our issues. Which legislators do you want to be making the decisions that affect our lives? Make sure you have a say in these decisions!

Come to the ASPSU office now, register to vote if you haven't already done so, and volunteer to help register other students to vote! For questions or concerns, please contact ASPSU Legislative Director Christopher Proudfoot at cproudfoot01@gmail.com

Help us register over 2,500 voters!

When students VOTE, students WIN!

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ASPSU Meets with Oregon Senator Rod Monroe
Date: August 29, 2009

Following a round table meeting with Senator Ron Wyden, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric
Shinseki, and Governor Ted Kulongoski to discuss veterans issues, the Associated Students of
Portland State University (ASPSU) hosted a meeting with Oregon Senator Rod Monroe on August
19th, 2009. ASPSU Student Body President Jonathan Sanford and a group of ASPSU
representatives from the Executive Staff and the Student Senate gave the Senator a brief tour of
the PSU campus, making stops at the Women’s Resource Center and the ASPSU Childcare
Center, among others.

Senator Rod Monroe represents the Senate District 24 in mid-Multnomah County. His district
covers most of eastern Portland and the city of Happy Valley. Throughout his political career,
Senator Monroe, a PSU alumnus, has had a long history of supporting stable funding for
education from preschool through college. The senator has vowed his support for PSU students
and assured his tireless advocacy for higher education.

ASPSU President Jonathan Sanford plans on having regular meetings with legislative officials like
Senator Monroe in order to build strong rapport and pave the way for ASPSU to continue to
champion issues that are important to students, like keeping the costs of their education as low
as possible. He said, “We are honored to host Senator Monroe at PSU and we look forward to
working with him.”
